Introduction to Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi stands for the wireless fidelity and it is a wireless internet technology that provides the internet access to the mobile users. The term Wi-Fi was created by an organization namely Wi-Fi alliance and it deals with the 802.11a, 802.11b and the 802.11c standards. Wi-Fi technology uses the radio waves for the communication and it operates at the 2.4GHz. The computers within the range of 200 feet of the access point can be connected to the internet and the wi-fi can easily be setup without the need of the cluttered wires and additional infrastructure.
Wi-Fi enables the access to the internet easily and gets rid of the cables and wirings. It uses the publicly available hot spots either free of cost or for a small subscription fees. Wi-Fi is very popular in a number of businesses and places such as airports, hotels, universities, public places, fast food restaurants and the homes. Wi-Fi can be enabled in the laptops, computers, cell phones, PDA and the MP3 player.
It also allows the connectivity of the devices in the peer to peer mode, which enables them to connect with each other directly. Sometimes the Wi-Fi networks can be attacked by the unauthorized users and the network can be implemented by using the security methods and technologies like WEP, WPA and the IPSec.
