How MT Works?

The technological advancements have made the MT business very flexible for both the doctors and the MT Company. A doctor or doctor’s PA dictates the medical data via Dictaphone or through the toll free numbers lines.  A Dictaphone is a specialized device that is connected with the computer through the USB port. 

Physician uses the Dictaphone to dictate the dictations on his/her computer.  The dictations through the Dictaphone are saved in a specific (configured) folder in the computer.  When the specific folder gets some voice files, the preconfigured GearXport software from the physician’s computer picks up those files and uploads them to the FTP sites. 

The FTP sites are commonly shared between the physician and the MT service providers.  When the voice data reaches the preconfigured folders are the FTP, the GearXport software automatically downloads those voice files (which are usually in the .dss format) and convert them into the .wav formats. 

The transcribers are assigned the voice files and after transcribing, the transcribed reports are uploaded at specific folder at the FTP.  These files are automatically downloaded at the physician’s computer.  So the only task at the physician or physician’s PA end is to dictate the files and all other work (which includes sending the voice files and receiving the transcribed reports of those files) is performed automatically.  There are one time configurations and settings up the rules are required with the GearXport software at both ends.

The other way is to send the voice files through the toll free numbers.  There are dictation companies like TranscritionGear.com that provide access to the dictation servers for fees.   The dictator dictates the files through telephone and these files are stored in the dictator’s account at the dictation server. These files then automatically forwarded towards the MT service provider’s FTP sites, which then downloaded to the computer automatically.
