How To Install Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 is a server operating system by Microsoft and it provides the scalable computing platform to the business all over the world.  It has many improved features like improved Active directory, IIS, Domain name service, DHCP, scripting, disk management, Clustering, Terminal services, Windows firewall, branch office server management, storage management, access management and the improved security features.  There are different editions of the Windows Server 2003 such as Web, Standard, Enterprise, Data Center, Windows Storage Server and Windows Compute Cluster Server.  In this article, you will learn that how to install Windows Server 2003 Standard edition.

Requirements

  • RAM 256 Recommended.
  • Disk space 1.5 GB.
  • CD-ROM drive 12 X
  • CPU speed 550 MHz recommended.
  • Monitor super VGA compatible with 800x600 resolution.

Prerequisites

  • Determine disk partition options and free space.
  • Choose a file system. NTFS recommended.
  • Check hardware and software compatibility.
  • Complete pre-installation check list.
  • Decide workgroup or domain installation.

Installation

Windows Server 2003 can be installed in a variety of ways and you can install it according to your requirements.  In this article, we will learn that how to perform a new installation through CD-ROM.

  1. Start the computer from the CD ROM.
  2. Press F6, if you want to install the SCSI adapters and other mass storage devices.
  3. Select to setup Windows Server 2003.
  4. Read and agree the Licensing agreement and press F8 to accept it.
  5. On the next Window, you can select or create a new partition on which you want to install the Windows.
  6. Select the file system with which you want to format the partition.  NTFS recommended.
  7. After formatting, setup will now begin to copy the files from the installation source i.e. CD and copy them into the disk.
  8. When all the installation files are copied to the disk, the system automatically restarts in the 15 seconds.
  9. After the restart of the system, the GUI based setup program initialized.
  10. Click customize if you want to change the regional settings, time, current system locate and current keyboard settings. If you don’t want to change any customized settings then click next to continue.
  11. Next type the name of the organization and enter the product key.
  12. Enter the appropriate license type and number of the purchased licensees.
  13. Type the computer name and the password for the local administrator.
  14. Select the date, time and time zone settings.
  15. Next, the setup will install the networking components.
  16. Next, you will be given a network settings Window and here you can provide the TCP/IP settings.
  17. In the workgroup or domain name, enter the name of your domain.
  18. Next, the setup process will continue to finish the installation files, registering the components, installing the networking services and installing the device drivers. etc.
  19. Setup completes and boots Windows 2003 Server.
  20. That’s all.  You’r done.
