Introduction to EISA

EISA stands for the Extended Industry Standard Architecture.  EISA is an bus architecture that has been design for the PC.  Computers with the EISA slots can use the ISA cards. ISA and EISA have now become old bus standards and have been replaced by the PCI.  EISA was also available on the non IBM compatible machines like HP 9000-D, AlphaServer, SGI Indigo2 and MIPS Magnum.  EISA was developed as an alternative to the MCA (Micro Channel Architecture).  EISA and MCA are not compatible with each other.  In the modern computers, EISA has now become obsolete.
