What is Chassis

Chassis is a structural case or a physical structure that is used in every computer system to support the electrical components inside it.  Every computer system requires at least one chassis to support the circuit boards, wiring and the components inside it. It provides the support to the motherboard, processor, hard disk, physical memory, power supply and the other components and the circuitry.

There are two major types of the chassis i.e. desktop chassis and tower chassis and they can be found in many colors and designs variations.  Chassis also contains the slots for the expansion boards.  Chassis also known as the computer case and it contains the power button, reset button, LED, hard drive usage status and the network activity.

In some cases it also includes the I/O ports, USB ports, expansion slots and peripherals etc.   The main manufacturers of the chassis are LOGISYS, GIGABYTE, COOLER MASTER, A-TOP, EVERCASE and ANTEC.  The following are the main categories of the Chassis.
