Introduction to CPU
CPU or the processor is a central processing unit in the computer. It is also known as the brain of the computer and all the calculations, data manipulations and data processing takes places in the process. It is an internal component of the computer and it contains the pins or metallic connectors on the underside. It is the most expensive component inside the computer and it has the heat sinks and cooling fans over it to dissipate the heat. Each motherboard consists of specific types of the processors.
Intel and the AMD are the two major manufacturers of the CPU and they both provide the wide range of the processors like Intel Pentium, Intel Pentium Dual Core, Intel Celeron, Intel Quad-Core XEON, Intel Centrino and Intel Core 2 Duo. The AMD processor include AMD Athlon, AMD Sempron, A processor consists of the following two important components.
It extracts the instructions from memory and executes them.
It performs the arithmetic and logical operations.
CPU’s speed is very important for the optimized performance of your computer. The speed of the CPU is measured in the MHz or GHz. One MHz can accomplish one million CPU cycles in one second. Modern CPUs are multitasking and multithreading and they can perform multiple tasks at the same time like you can work in a word document, browse the internet, download the software, listen to the music and play the games at the same time. Processor’s performance depends on its design, clock rate, bus speed, cache and some other things.
